Polo Shao is president of Alipay, a leading third-party online payment platform in China under Alibaba Group. He joined Alibaba Group in March 2005 as director of the Group's network security department, building a security management system and a team of network security professionals for Alibaba.com, Taobao and Alipay from scratch. His work helped all subsidiaries of Alibaba Group lay a solid foundation in risk management.

In 2006, Polo served as assistant to Alibaba Group Chairman and CEO Jack Ma, facilitating strategic collaborative projects across different subsidiaries. In February 2007, he was appointed vice president of Alibaba Group and vice president of Taobao, responsible for strategic development planning, overall marketing and business modeling of Taobao. He became executive president of Alipay in January 2008. In January 2009, he was promoted to senior vice president of Alibaba Group and president of Alipay.

Prior to joining Alibaba, Polo was a renowned criminal investigator in China.
