Geek America: The Top 10 U.S. Cities for Technology Jobs

5. Dallas-Ft. Worth, Texas

Flashy Dallas and the more conservative Ft. Worth together employ 176,000 high-tech workers, making it fifth in high-tech employment. The average private sector wage in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area is $48,282, and techies there average 72 percent more than that at $83,133. Techies working in the DFW area will likely hear the oh-so-Texas lore of Ross Perot, founder of Dallas-born global tech firm EDS, who was refused 77 times before he got his first contract. High-tech workers yearning to work in the area will hopefully have a far easier time since DFW rounds out the top 10 in job growth.
