Killer sunsets, cool beaches, and trendier-than-thou hipster havens make LA a unique home for its 172,000 high-tech workers. The "City of Angels" ranks sixth in high-tech employment and ninth in high-tech job growth. Compared with the $47,729 non-techies make, techies average 74 percent more. But that difference may not feel so large. From spendy Fred Segal to trendy Urth Caffe, the LA area offers plenty of ways to relieve a techie of his average wage of $83,258. Worse, the smog is legendary and the traffic is too. But then again, how many cities give you a shot at bumping into your favorite celebrity?
