A New York restaurant is buttering up its patrons

dd

New York restaurant is buttering up its patrons to put aside the U.S. economic crisis and splash out on a $1,000 paella. The lavish dish, whipped up by chefs at Puerto Rican restaurant Sofrito, will tantalise hard-to-please foodies with a list of hard-to-get ingredients, including rare Spanish baby eel and octopus, Italian truffles and Jamon Iberico - a rare Spanish black pig fed only chestnuts. Topped with a caviar garnish, patrons can feel good about filling up their stomachs and the funds of a local charity, with 20 per cent of the proceeds from each dish benefiting Ayuda, a not-for-profit group awarding education scholarships to Hispanic students.
