Weihai Economic and Technological Development Zone (WHETDZ) was established as a state-level development zone in 1992 with the approval of the State Council. It covers 36 km2 and the total administrative area is 194 km2. The first phase covers 11.88 km2. The Zone is located in Weihai City, at the eastern-most part of Shandong Peninsula. It is a mere 20 km from Weihai Airport.
