Qingdao Economic and Technological Development Zone (QDETDZ), also known as Qingdao Development Area, was established in October 1984. It was among the first group of state-level development zones. Situated on the western coast of Jiaozhou Bay and facing Qingdao City across the sea, QDETDZ is only 2.26 nautical miles from Qingdao at the narrowest point. It is 53 km from Qingdao International Airport and a 50 minutes ride by car. Qingdao, located at the southwestern end of Shandong Peninsula, is a famous open coastal city characterized by port trade, light chemical industry, financial services, tourism and oceanographic research.
