Why: This retreat is invite-only, as is membership to the Global Business Policy Council, a group of 55 executives, policy figures and intellectuals that gather annually to discuss business trends and long-term strategy. This year they will meet two weeks before the presidential election to discuss new risks in the American and global economies. Since its founding in 1992, the council has met in many international locations, including Dubai, Budapest and Kuala Lumpur.
