Popular television shows like So You Think You Can Dance may leave kids thinking there's a demand for talented hoofers. But there's so little full-time work available for dancers that the Department of Labor doesn't even track an average yearly salary. Dancers earn a mean salary of $13.86 an hour, according to the government. That's just $29,000 if you work 40 hours a week, 52 weeks a year. Hook up with a performing arts company, and the pay is still just $19.23 an hour, or about $40,000 a year.
