Avoid negativity and the phrase "no comment." Try to address the compelling issues when questioned by the media. Don't fear controversy, but don't fall prey to it either. For example, if you鈥檙e a politician ambushed by reporters with a question that feels like a trap, respond with something like: "Our campaign hasn鈥檛 decided on that issue yet." On the other hand, some questions provide opportunities to confront problems head-on and to establish a strong voice. Pick your battles.
