Networking the Netherworld and the Real World
In modern business, much of the communication can go sight unseen. You'll often get an e-mail and a name, but never a face--sometimes, not even a voice. If that's the future of the business world, look to the MMORPG genre for practice and potential business relationships. Blizzard's "World of Warcraft," the biggest MMORPG (by subscriptions), invites players to explore a world of hacking and slashing through dungeons, learning professions and accumulating wealth. There's a code of ethics in the virtual world too: It's important to have allies; befriend humans; beware the undead. Gamers are even taking virtual friendship out into the real world. Raid a dungeon at night; meet for coffee in the morning.
