Kevin Plank launched the company back in 1995 by peddling spandex T shirts to University of Maryland football players. By mid-2007 a diversified line of athletic wear could be found in 13,000 stores. Under Armour has made a concerted effort to attract women and children, and they're now the fastest-growing category for the company. Its P/E is on the high side, but it reflects impressive gains in sales and profits. Plank's stake in the company was worth a recent $820 million.
