This summer Mendillo took the top job at the Harvard Management Co., Harvard University's $35 billion endowment arm. Since 2002, Mendillo had been chief investment officer at Wellesley College, where she restructured the school's portfolio and had average annualized returns of 13.5% for the five years ending in 2007, net of fees and restructuring costs. Mendillo had also previously worked at Harvard Management for 15 years, including a stint growing a diverse portfolio--private equity to natural resources--to $7 billion in assets. She holds undergraduate and graduate business degrees from Yale. --Allison Fass
