Chongqing Economic and Technological Development Zone (CQETDZ) was set up in the early 1990s, and was approved by the State Council in 1993 as the 1st state-level economic and technological development zone in western China. CQETDZ comprises a 9.6-km2 Southern Zone that has been built and a 83.7 km2 Northern Zone whose infrastructure is currently under construction. The Southern Zone is located in Chongqing City's Nanping. It is 3 km from Chongqing Railway Station, 5 km from Chongqing Passenger Pier and 28 km from Chongqing Airport. Information Industrial Zone, Dangui Industrial Zone and Huilong Industrial Zone have been established. The Zones stretch through a commercial district in Nanhu as well as Luochangwan residential district.
