#1: 7-Eleven
After seven years, we have a new No. 1. It's 7-Eleven's 17th year in the Top 10, but the first year it has claimed the No. 1 spot. From 2006 to 2007, the company added 3,481 franchises. Part of the growth is due to 7-Eleven's focus on having more franchise-owned, rather than corporate-owned, stores. (We think it has to do with temporarily turning 12 of its locations into Kwik-E-Marts to coincide with the release of The Simpsons Movie this past summer.) Whatever the reason, 7-Eleven plans to continue increasing its number of stores in 2008.
