The Seventh Session of the WTO Ministerial Conference will be held from 30 November to 2 December 2009. The Conference is taking place four years after the last Ministerial Conference in 2005, where the emphasis will be on transparency and open discussion.

India is actively engaged in the ongoing negotiations in the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Shri Arun Shourie, Minister of Commerce & Industry, Disinvestment and the North East, said here today, while presiding over the Meeting of the Parliamentary Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Commerce & Industry.

The government will continue to pursue a stakeholder-driven approach with focus on seeking enhanced market access for developing countries in future WTO negotiations, Shri Murasoli Maran, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, said here yesterday while addressing the 9th Meeting of the Advisory Committee on International Trade of the Ministry of Commerce & Industry.

The State Governments of Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Delhi, Tripura, Nagaland, Haryana and the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli have established the WTO Cells so far.

The needs and interests of the developing countries should be the central theme of all future activities of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Mr. Murasoli Maran, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, said in his statement at the Plenary Session of the 4th Ministerial Conference of the WTO at Doha this morning.

General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade, which has been superseded as an international organisation by the WTO (World Trade Organisation). An updated General Agreement is now one of the WTO’s agreements.

The meeting of the Cabinet Committee on WTO matters was held on 25th October, 2001 to consider the stand to be taken by India at the forthcoming Fourth Ministerial Conference (MC) of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

Shri Murasoli Maran has initiated the process of consultations with political parties with a view to building a national consensus on WTO issues ahead of the forthcoming Fourth Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
