Bahrain Prime Minister Shaikh Khalifa Bin Salman Al Khalifa will officially inaugurate the new Khalifa Bin Salman Port on November 11, said a senior official from the General Organisation of Sea Ports (GOP).

The Khalifa Bin Salman Port (KBSP) is the first multi-functional facility that is focused on import, export and re-exports and value added services.

Announcing the inauguration date, Shaikh Daij bin Salman bin Daij Al Khalifa, chairman of the GOP, said the high-profile event will be attended by high-ranking government officials, dignitaries, diplomats, senior executives from Bahrain’s private sector.

GOP partners and stakeholders in the maritime and logistics industries, including APM Terminals Bahrain, the port operator will also attend.

“The Organisation has been in the process of preparation for this event for a few months now, and is co-ordinating with various governmental institutions to ensure the successful implementation of this landmark event,' Shaikh Daij said.

'With this new port, Bahrain’s position as a gateway to the region is even further strengthened, serving as a boost to our marine and logistics services on a local, regional, and international level. This will effectively contribute in achieving the objectives of Bahrain’s 2030 vision,' he stated.

'The Khalifa Bin Salman Port is considered to be one of the most important and advanced ports in the Gulf region. It is also one of the most vital infrastructure projects that aims to enhance various economic sectors, particularly the commercial, industrial, and investment sectors in the Kingdom,' Shaikh Daij said.

According to him, the port will help promote Bahrain’s strategic location as a regional and international commercial and financial hub.

The KBSP occupies an area of 110 hectares of reclaimed land and is located on the north-east of the Kingdom, only 13 km away from Bahrain International Airport, and it is also linked to the road leading to the King Fahd Causeway.

The port provides sea freight, shipping, and logistic services in accordance to the highest international specifications and standards in the industry, he added.
