Bahrain Air, the first privately owned airline of Bahrain, will commence flights to two Iraqi destinations from August 28.

The announcement comes close on the heels of Gulf Air announcing flights to Iraq from Bahrain from September 1.

Bahrain Air will fly seven times a week to Iraq – twice a week to Baghdad and five times to Najaf.

A delegation from the senior management of the company recently visited Iraq to finalise the operational requirements, the inspection of the security arrangements, the air safety and to complete the contracts of the ground handling issues, said a statement.

The delegation was headed by A Aziz Al Shaer, manager security and corporate affairs, Captain Suhail Ismail, manager fleet and training, and  Nasser Abdulaziz Bin Hamad, manager, ground operations.

Ibrahim Abdulla Al Hamer, Bahrain Air's managing director, said the airline's operations to Iraq followed a mutual agreement between Bahrain and Iraq civil aviation authorities.

"The plan to introduce these new destinations is consistent with our goals and represents a dedication to the lucrative Iraqi market, and appreciation of its immense growth and potential," he said.

Bahrain Air will also start flights to the Saudi capital Riyadh from September 28, taking the airline's total number of destinations to 19. – TradeArabia News Service
