BEIJING, Aug 4 - Chinese rail freight volumes increased 0.3 percent in July from a year earlier, the first rise since November, the People's Daily reported on Tuesday, citing the Ministry of Railways.
The recovery in rail shipments provided fresh evidence that the economy is gaining a more solid footing, the Communist Party's mouthpiece said.
Total rail cargo reached 284.56 million tonnes in July, an increase of 850,000 tonnes from the same month last year and up 11.01 million tonnes from June.
The growth mainly reflected increased shipments of coal, metals and construction materials, the paper quoted the ministry as saying.
