Nov. 3, 2008 (China Knowledge) - Italy-based premium sports car manufacturer, Lamborghini, plans to set up a branch in Beijing, capital of China, as part of the automaker's global expansion strategy, sources reported.

The supercar manufacturer said in a statement that the Beijing branch is scheduled to start operation as early as the beginning of next year.

The move signifies Lamborghini's dedication to the Chinese market, said Stephan Winkelmann, CEO with Lamborghini, noting that the company will go for broke to enhance its presence in the potential market.

Winkelmann added Lamborghini is optimistic about its future development in China despite the global financial crisis

Last year, Lamborghini sold 28 units of cars in China, while the figure is expected to hit 80 units this year.

Currently, Lamborghini has three dealerships in Shanghai, Guangzhou and Beijing. As part of an aggressive expansion plan in the Chinese market, Lamborghini expects to add three new dealerships in Chengdu, Qingdao and Hong Kong in near term.
