Tiger Woods' iPhone Critics

Published: 07 Dec 2009 18:56:15 PST

With the number of Tiger Woods' mistresses multiplying by the day, chatter about the scandalized golf star is popping up everywhere--including in reviews for his iPhone game, Tiger Woods PGA Tour.

In the wake of the scandal, the app's "customer reviews" section has attracted several comments that allude to Woods' woes. Most attempt humorous commentary, such as, "This update is more stable than [Woods'] personal life is." Another user made a reference to the "Tiger Woods unlockable pimp hat" as a "nice [game] bonus."

The most specific reference to Woods' travails comes from a commenter who headlined his review, "Great game, weird bug." The "bug," as the commenter describes it, is actually a fantastical and rather crude imagining of Woods' life. "Whenever I'm losing badly, Tiger Woods tells me that I'm wasting his time and he's got to meet up with some chick," the commenter wrote. "Also, sometimes, a blonde lady chases me with a golf club on the course and it makes it very hard for me to concentrate."

Yet another commenter used the App Store review section as a forum to declare his empathy for Woods. In a comment titled, "I support Tiger Woods," he wrote, "Who would've [known] Tiger was a playa [sic] on [and] off the green…Had to [be] worth getting clubbed."

The iPhone game allows users to play as or against Woods on famous golf courses such as Pebble Beach; the game comes complete with 3-D graphics and play-by-play commentary. Produced by EA Sports, a sub-label of videogame giant Electronic Arts ( ERTS - news - people ), it sells for $4.99 in Apple's ( AAPL - news - people ) App Store for use on iPhones or iPod touches. The application was originally released in May and updated on Dec. 1, several days after news of Woods' car accident (and the cheating allegations that may have caused it) first emerged.

EA, which also produces versions of the game for game consoles including Microsoft's ( MSFT - news - people ) Xbox 360, Sony's ( SNE - news - people ) PS3 and Nintendo's ( NTDOY.PK - news - people ) Wii, is--like Woods' other business partners--standing by the athlete. "Our strong relationship with Tiger for more than a decade remains unchanged…we respect Tiger's privacy…and we look forward to seeing him back on the golf course," the company said in a statement.
