Sep. 15, 2009 (China Knowledge) - Taiwan-based Acer Inc, the world's third-largest PC brand, shipped 8.2 million PCs in the second quarter of this year, representing a year-on-year growth of 23.3%, despite the economic slowdown, sources reported.

Meanwhile, Hewlett-Packard recorded 13.4 million of PC shipment in Q2, ranking the first among global PC OEM manufacturers. Dell, shipped 9 million PCs during the period, down 23.3% year on year.

According to statistics released by the research firm iSuppli, PC shipments worldwide hit 67.2 million units in Q2, down 4.3% from a year earlier, or a slight increase of 1 percentage point compared with a quarter ago.

However, the recovering signs will not revise an estimated 4% decline in worldwide PC shipments for the whole year, according to some analysts.

Acer holds an optimistic outlook on its notebook shipment in the second half of this year. It predicated that its third-quarter notebook shipment will increase between 35% and 40% from a quarter earlier, with operating profit margin rising to 2.8%.
