Sep. 4, 2009 (China Knowledge) - ZTE Corp<000063><0763>, a leading global provider of telecom equipment and network solutions in China, recently formed a partnership with CSL Ltd to build a 4G commercial trial network in Hong Kong.

The two companies will jointly expand CSL's next generation network capabilities with the roll-out of a Universal Mobile Telecommunications System and the building of a 4G or Long Term Evolution network in Hong Kong, ZTE said in a statement on its website.

The new network will be able to offer faster mobile service in Hong Kong with peak download speeds in excess of 100 Mbps, according to the statement.

Commercial operation of the network is scheduled to start in 2010.

The deployment of mobile services using UMTS in the 900 Mhz spectrum range will increase outdoor coverage and in-building penetration rates, said CSL's chief technology officer, Christian Daigneault.

CSL, a subsidiary of Australia's Telstra Corp Ltd, previously teamed up with Shenzhen-based ZTE to launch the world's first SDR-based HSPA+ AII IP commercial network in Hong Kong.
