Acer sees 35%-40% increase in Q3 notebook shipment

Sep. 3, 2009 (China Knowledge) - Taiwan-based Acer Inc, the world's third-largest PC brand, predicted that its third-quarter notebook shipment will increase between 35% and 40% from a quarter earlier, sources reported.

The Chinese government's preferential policies aiming at propelling the domestic demand, along with the back-to-school demand will help boost the shipment growth, said Gianfranco Lanci, president of Acer, adding that the rising trend of notebook shipment will continue in the fourth quarter of this year with a 10% quarter-on-quarter increase. However, he declined to provide detailed shipment figures.

Notebooks contributed to 67% of Acer's product sales in the second quarter of this year, when the PC maker shipped 8.43 million PCs globally, according to IDC's statistics.

Moreover, Acer expects its operating profit margin to increase to 2.8% in Q3 this year, compared to 2.52% of Q2. The firm also hopes to record a 3% operating profit margin next year through strict cost control measures.

Acer recorded NT$2.3 billion of net profit in Q2 2009, compared with NT$2.9 billion in Q2 2008. Its revenue also fell 5% year on year to NT$119 billion during the period.
