Hon Hai gets e-book reader orders from China Mobile

Aug. 25, 2009 (China Knowledge) - Taiwan-based Hon Hai Precision Industry Co, the biggest contract manufacturer of electronics in the world, was selected by China Mobile Ltd<0941><CHL> to help it produce e-book readers, sources reported. Reportedly, China Mobile Chairman Wang Jianzhou said during his visit to Taiwan that Hon Hai is likely to ship the first batch of e-book readers for China Mobile in the first half of 2010, and the new value-added service derived from the e-book readers is expected to help the Chinese mobile operator further expand its revenue channels. No financial details on the alliance were disclosed so far. Industry insiders estimate that the global e-book reader market will exceed US$2.5 billion by the end of 2013, and China, with the largest number of mobile subscribers, is a huge market for the new business.
