3G in subway

Published: 06 Jul 2009 07:02:02 PST

New mobile 3G reception will be available in Beijing’s subway Line 4 when it begins operation in September, the Beijing MTR Corporation, the city’s subway operator, stated on its website today.

Cell phone reception, including TD-SCDMA, a 3G format developed in China, will be provided by China Mobile’s Beijing subsidiary, in line with an agreement signed by the two companies, the statement said.

It will be the first time that the Chinese technology will be available in Beijing’s subway.

Sources said that China Telecom and China Unicom were in discussions with Beijing MTR about making their signals available in the new line.
