How to spot a fake Alibaba.com website

Published: 09 Sep 2009 01:28:49 PST

Recently there have been a number of fake Alibaba.com websites or phishing websites targeting Alibaba.com users. A phishing website looks like a real Alibaba.com sign in page that asks you to fill in your Alibaba.com username and password. Once you fill in your username and password, scammers will be able to use your Alibaba.com identity to scam or defraud others.

To verify whether or not you are on a phishing website, try the following:
Input your CORRECT username and an INCORRECT password at least three times. If you are able to sign in to your account successfully, you are on phishing website.

How to Protect Yourself from Phishing Scams

  • Make sure you're using the real Alibaba.com website, especially when submitting credit card or other sensitive information. Most Alibaba.com sign in pages begin with http://www.alibaba.com/.
  • If you suspect the email you receive is not from Alibaba.com, don’t click on any of the links within the email. Please forward suspicious emails to alibaba@service.alibaba.com.
  • Create an Alibaba.com Sign-in Seal. When creating your Alibaba.com Sign-in Seal, you will be asked to select either customizable text or a unique image for your computer. Each time you sign in to the genuine Alibaba.com using your computer, you will be able to see your Sign-in Seal in the top right corner of the sign in box.
Create an Alibaba.com Sign-in Seal now.

If you think you may have been a victim of a phishing scam, sign in to My Alibaba to change your password immediately and contact our Service Team by email at alibaba@service.alibaba.com.
