The Total Retail Sales of Consumer Goods in China-May, 2013

In the aspect of consuming, the total retail sales of consumer goods in May, 2013 has reached RMB 18888.6 billion, with literally year-on-year growth of 12.9% and increasing 0.1% compared to last month; the real amount increases by 12.1%, which is more than last month's by 0.3%. The total retail sales of consumer goods grows continuously and stably. The year-on-year growth speed has increased for 3 months continuously, showing a trend of slight and continuous rise.

As to specific industries, the year-on-year growth speed of catering consumption in May has increased by 1.3% compared to last month, from April's 7.9% to 9.2%. The growth speed of goods consumption has fallen slightly by 0.1% compared to last month. Among the enterprises above designated size, discretionary consumption such as furniture, household appliance and audio equipment, jewelry and automobile is still increasing stably. Among them, the year-on-year growth speed of household appliance consumption of that month has reached 21.5%, increasing substantially by 6.2%. We infers that since national energy conservation subsidy of household appliance ended in May, businesses had to use various promotion means to attract residents to buy the household appliance, which drove May's consumption of the household appliance to substantial increase. The sales of household appliance in June may fall back apparently compared to May. Besides, according to the retail data monitoring by CMM (China Market Monitor Co., LTD), the bestselling of color TV is the main reason for the growing sales of household appliance. As to the white goods, the sales of air conditioner is far from satisfaction, but the sales of refrigerator and washing machine is fairly mild.
