Statistics showed exports in July was RMB 1.15 trillion, up 5.1% year on year and imports was RMB 1.04 trillion (equivalent to USD 168.17 billion), up 10.9%. The growth rate of both imports and exports in July changed to be positive in comparison with the situation in June. The trade surplus was RMB 109.77 billion (equivalent to USD 17.82 billion) in July, down 29.6%.
Among all exported commodities, exports of mechanical and electrical products grew stably and that of some conventional labor-intensive products also had a decent growth. In July, exports of mechanical and electrical products amounted to USD 102.85 billion, up 4%; it accounted for 55.3% of total exports. Specifically, exports of electrical appliances and electronics reached USD 43.87 billion, up 11.3%; exports of mechanical equipment totaled USD 31.95 billion, up 1.7%.
Among all imported commodities, imports of energy and resources increased. In July, totally 2.22 million tons of primary shape plastic, 1.18 million tons of steel, 411 thousand tons of unwrought copper and copper products and 72 thousand tons of unwrought aluminum and aluminum products were imported at an average import price of USD 1983 per ton, USD 1235.2 per ton, USD 7513.6 per ton and USD 4667 per ton respectively. By weight, the imports of former three kinds of products increased by 7.5%, 1.6% and 12% respectively with only the last kind of product, i.e. unwrought aluminum and aluminum products, decreased by 25.9%. The average import price of primary shape plastic and unwrought aluminum and aluminum products rose by 1.9% and 10.4%, while that of steel and unwrought cooper and cooper products dropped by 5.7% and 7.1%. In addition, imports of mechanical and electrical products amounted to USD 73.21 billion, up 8.2%.
Among all main partners, only bilateral trade with Japan declined. In July, bilateral trade between China and Europe, America and ASEAN totaled USD 50.33 billion, USD 44.31 billion and USD 37.17 billion respectively, up 5%, 10% and 13.1%. Meanwhile, the bilateral trade between China Mainland and Hong Kong reached USD 29.28 billion, up 2.8%. On the contrary, the bilateral trade between China and Japan was USD 27.08 billion, down 6.1%.
