Mexican firm to produce caps for Coca-Cola

Zeller Plastik Mexico will develop a sports closure for the re-launch of preservative-free sports drink, Powerade, from Coca-Cola Company. Zeller Plastik Mexico, owned by Global Closures Systems, has worked with its sister company United Closures and Plastics in the UK to manufacture the SportsGuard valve dispensing closure. The 38-mm HDPE closure cap has been used for the re-launched 600-ml and 1-ltr sizes in the Powerade product range and is a proprietary closure of the Coca-Cola Company.

Zeller has worked with Coca-Cola to design a closure without induction heat seal liners, typically used for hot filling. Patented drainage channels have also been incorporated into the closure. Security is provided by the tamper-evident band at the base of the closure and a tear strip on the flip-top.
