Rexam HTW, a joint venture between Rexam Plc (UK) and Hindustan Tin Works Ltd, recently unveiled the first ever 500-ml can for beverage packaging in India. During the occasion, Sanjay Bhatia, managing director, Rexam HTW and Kalyan Ganguly, managing director, United Breweries signed a multi crore supply contract for the supply of 330ml and 500ml cans. A specially modelled 6-ft large can was also officially unveiled by Ganguly.
In order to capture the growing demand of the 500-ml can market, the company decided to invest for this can size in addition to the 330-ml cans thus becoming a total solution provider. The new cans will be made of steel and will be primarily used to pack beer but can also be used to pack carbonated and non-carbonated drinks. The company is all geared up now to supply the two pack sizes in 202 and 206 diameter to the user industry from its Taloja plant.
Atit Bhatia, VP - Business Development said, "The much awaited 500-ml cans are now made in India; this is a moment for us to rejoice at Rexam HTW. We have been eagerly waiting for this day to come and it is wonderful to start this process with one of our longstanding partners and India's beer market leader United Breweries. We look forward to getting orders from our other business partners as well and work closely with the industry to grow the beverage can market in India."
