Hebei started the obsolete steel capacity elimination

November 13 MetalBiz--On November 12, 20 blast furnaces and 3 converters were removed in five cities of Heibei Province such as Qinghuangdao, Tangshan, Baoding, Xingtai and Handan. Hebei province started the move of obsolete capacity elimination. Before the move, Hebei has eliminated 16 blast furnaces less than 400 cubic meters, converted furnaces below 13 tons of capacity, involving 4.45mln tons of steel capacity and 3.6mln tons of steel-making capacity.

As the largest steel province in China, Hebei has a production of 20% totals nationwide and its steel production is leading in China. In 21 century, Hebei Steel has a tremendous achievement and becomes the most important strategic support industry in the province, making a significant contribution to the economic and social development of Hebei. Meanwhile, the development in steel industry also led a difficult sustain for regional resource and environment, so a strong steel industry and elimination of obsolete capacity became an inevitable choice for structural adjustment.
