USS to discuss whether to pause levying tax on manganese chip

Published: 12 Nov 2009 01:40:32 PST

Nov. 12 MetalBiz--Member, Robert Casey mentioned a bill to United States Senate, hoping to pausing canceling the tax to above 99.5% manganese chip. The bill is submitted to Senate Finance Committee. The pausing imposing tax will last to December 31, 2011, aiming at imported commodity or taking delivery of goods from warehouse, to be implemented after the passing of the bill for 15 days. The bill got the support from member, Arden Specter.

Two years ago, one similar bill was mentioned, but not being passed. It is learned that presently America imposes 14 tax on China's manganese chip not on South Africa's manganese chip; but to levy 14% tax on manganese powder.

Because America does have own manganese chip producer, this kind of tax (for protecting their own enterprise) made no sense, in fact. However, South Africa's electrolytic manganese producer, MMC will make the efforts to oppose to this bill.
