November 2 MetalBiz--US and China reached a common ground on fighting against trade and investment protectionism together on October 29 in Hangzhou China, while International Trade Committee (ITC) voted to start anti-dumping and anti-subsidy investigation on seamless steel pipe from China on October 30 (US local time).
USS, United Steelworkers of America union and other enterprises as well as institutes required levying 98.37% of anti-dumping tax on seamless steel pipe from China and imposing extra anti-subsidy tax from the subsidy of China' s government. US believed that China's seamless steel pipe may damage the benefits of steel manufacturers in US. US Department of Commerce also quoted data to claim that the export of China's seamless steel pipe products in survey grew 132% from 2006 to 2008.
Seamless steel pipe is a kind of products in steel pipe products, with relatively high added value. There are more than 200 seamless steel pipe manufacturing enterprises in the domestic and the export of seamless steel pipe accounts for large proportion in sales volume. However, an insider from Ansteel Sales Department told reporters on November 1 that "due to the sluggish market since this year, the relevant products exported to US is few, adding US so-called proof should be the data of last year, even earlier time.
Analysts considered that "China's export price of steel pipe is more expensive than domestic price and is not likely to be lower than cost price", "foreign steel mills may be pressured by their own management to frequently start dual-antidumping on products from China".
