October 20 MetalBiz--WISCO began to export H-shaped steel to S.Korea. A linkman from WISCO pointed out the export was relatively low on October 13 and the export of 250 x 250mm steel was only 500 tons. WISCO believed that the overseas exports can help improve the product quality.
WISCO claimed that it was the first shipment of H-shaped steel after upgrading universal rolling mills.
The rolling mill with an annual output of 1.05mln tons was mainly to produce 100-meter rails to meet China's domestic rail demand. As the previous report, the new mill also can produce other steel products such as H-shaped steel, I-beam and channel steel.
Rolling mills were put into operation in March of 2008, prior to this, WISCO replaced the rolling mills to become the fourth steel mill which can produce 100-meter rail and the other three steel mills are Pangang, Baogang and Ansteel.
S.Korea's H-beam imports increased month on month this year. H-shaped steel export from China to S.Korea was up 11% or 4,400 tons 44,900 tons in September. S.Korean Iron&Steel Association claimed the import was 40.500 tons in August.
