Oct. 14 MetalBiz--It is reported that at the request of the government, the ore giant Brazil's Vale plans to build the large-scale ore transporting ships in the local shipbuilding company. Vale is talking about several large-scale ore transporting ships carrying 400,000 tons, and at present the bidding procedure is awaited to be completed, but because one Brazil oil company, Petrobras previously intended to invest US$30bln to build the oil-exploiting ships but the local shipbuilding producers have no ability and competitiveness to qualify for it.
South Korea's STX stated last week that Vale had the intention to build another eight large-scale ore transporting ships in its firm, and the total amount is US$920mln, but Vale noted that the actual ship owner of the eight large-scale ships is not it, instead, Vale signed the 25-year long-term transporting agreement on the batch of new ships with STX.
