India coke import price increased significantly

Published: 09 Oct 2009 23:57:32 PST

October 10 MetalBiz--Presently the price of Indian imported low ash metallurgical coke increased from U.S.$300 per ton in September to the current U.S.$350 per ton (CFR) and it is likely to continue rising.

Traders believed that because China stopped coke export and Russia, Poland and Columbia' s coke import was more and more difficult, the supply was shortage, while the upward tendency of coking coal drove the coke price.

Affected by the demand in ferroalloy industry, Indian domestic low ash coke price increased more than 1,000 rupee to 16,500-17,000 rupee per ton (U.S.$358-369 per ton). However, market participants believed that with the domestic and oversea ferroalloy demand weaken, the coke price may fall back in future several weeks.
