China may become net importer of coke in 2010

Published: 28 Sep 2009 19:09:11 PST

Sep.29 MetalBiz--According to statistics from Customs, China's imported coke amount in August totaled 1.18mln tons, down by 15% from July.

McCloskey Group Limited speculates that China is very likely to become the net importer of coke next year. The strong coke demands in China make the country's own supply hard to satisfy.

Australian coke prices will be pushed up following China's demand, from U.S. $175 per ton to U.S. $200 per ton, and it will be a good news to coke industry, especially the Russian suppliers.
