September 25 MetalBiz--EU made a decision on September 24 to levy an official anti-dumping duty on the seamless steel pipes and aluminum foils from China with 39.2% and 30% of tax rate respectively.
The official anti-dumping tariffs applied to the seamless steel pipes with the circular section and external diameter less than 406.4mm as well as aluminum foils products. The official anti-dumping duty is implemented after the six-month's temporary tax due and the aforesaid decision will come into effect on the same day when the relevant official journals released, which will be issued before October 8.
In addition, EU decided to levy an official anti-dumping tariff on the aluminum foils made in Brazil and Armenia for 5 years, with the tax rate of 17.6% and 13.4% correspondingly.
Although the leaders from EU had repeatedly promised to oppose protectionism, EU carried out the so-called anti-dump on the commodities from China, such as steel wire rod, sodium gluconate, seamless steel pipes and aluminum foil. Chinese government expressed a strong opposition to it.
As early as April 8 of 2009, after EU made a public notice to impose a provisional anti-dumping duty on China's seamless steel pipes, officials from China's Ministry of Commerce pointed out on April 9 that EU sent a wrong signal to the industry with a reason of damage and threat to impose preliminary anti-dumping tariff on China's seamless steel pipes, hoping EU to terminate the anti-dumping investigation on China's seamless steel pipes.
