POSCO to expand the process capacity of automobile plate in Japan

POSCO to expand the process capacity of automobile plate in JapanSep.18 MetalBiz--S.Korea POSCO said that it will establish an automobile plate processing center in Nagoya with an annual capacity of 150,000 tons, aimed at expanding the process capacity of auto steel in Japan as well as improving the sales quota in high-end steel market and overseas.

POSCO owns a auto plate processing centre in Kyushu, where Toyota, Nissan and Daihatsu all have production plants. In early this year, POSCO put the steel processing centers in India and Thailand with the annual capacity of 120,000 tons respectively into production, additionally, the auto plate processing plant in Mexican with 400,000 tons of annual capacity also started into production before.

In order to satisfy the increasing steel demand in the global auto manufacturing and local electronic manufacturing, POSCO increased the establishment of steel processing plants in oversea, except Japan, India, Thailand and Mexican, the auto processing center of POSCO in Malaysia also completed. In addition, it also intends to set up an auto steel plate processing plant in Vietnam with the annual capacity of 100,000 tons. The auto steel processing center in Shenyang China is also set to establish with 170,000 tons of annual capacity and it will be finished in June 2010, being the sixteen investment project of POSCO in China. POSCO also plans to set up a auto steel processing center in Turkey

Faced with the fallback of global economy, POSCO strongly expands the oversea customers and has settled agreements on steel plate supply with Toyota and Sony, the two leading enterprises in Japan, at the beginning of this year. POSCO began to supply auto steel plate for Toyota mills in Japan in January and it also provided Sony electro galvanized steel plate.

POSCO has 40 steel processing centers in the global 12 countries now and it is expected that the proportion of sales income from the future oversea market in total revenue will increase. At present, the most income of POSCO is from S.Korea market, accounted for about 70% of total revenue.
