Liaoning's steel products export achieved the first MoM growth in 2009

July 15 MetalBiz--On July 14, reporters learned from the Shenyang Customs, that Liaoning exported 105,000 tons of steel in May this year, up 39.8% month on month, export volume for US$80mln, rising 37.9% month on month. This is the first time that Liaoning's steel export has the first month-on-month increase this year.

According to statistics, in May steel export of general trade turnover of Liaoning was 103,000 tons, a growth of 39.7% month on month, export volume for US$80mln, up 36.8% month on month. Among them, S. Korea and Japan are major trading partners of Liaoning. The quantity of steel exported to S. Korea was 33,000 tons, down 10.9% month on month, export trading volume at US$20mln, down 22.1% month on month. Liaoning exported 12,000 tons of steel to Japan, an increase of 1.8 times month on month, export trading volume at the US$8.329mln, up 78.6% month on month.

Although it is the first time that Liaoning achieved steel month-on-month growth, but from January to May this year, Liaoning exported 560,000 tons of steel, dropping 77.4% over the same period last year, the export trading volume at US$490mln, declining 74.9% month on month. Some relevant persons of Shenyang Customs said that since the full-blown financial crisis, the global main using steel industries have shrunk to different degrees. Decline in international steel demand, reducing export orders, appreciation of RMB and depreciation of other currencies, resulted in increasing trade protectionism, which bright about effects on exports of Liaoning's steel products to varying degrees.
