Evonik and Taiyo Nippon Sanso to set up facility in Japan

Published: 08 Jun 2009 22:28:19 PST

Evonik Industries AG, together with Japanese partner Taiyo Nippon Sanso Corporation (TNSC), is working on a new, multimillion dollar integrated production facility for monosilane and AEROSIL in Yokkaichi, Japan, that will be dedicated to future-oriented markets for solar energy and electronics. The long-term agreement calls for Evonik-an innovation driver on the photovoltaic market-to supply monosilane to TNSC, one of the world's leading distributors of industrial and special gases. The deal, according to Evonik, aims to position Evonik's solar silicon activities on the attractive Asian market. Evonik's technologies enable it to move into the production of electronic-grade monosilane for thin-layer photovoltaics, flat screens, and semiconductors. Construction of the new facility is expected to begin in late 2009 and start-up is scheduled for 2011.
