NEW YORK, Sept 30 - The U.S. dollar edged lower against the yen on Wednesday after an index of business activity in the U.S. Midwest area showed a surprise drop for September.
The Institute for Supply Management-Chicago business barometer fell to 46.1 from 50.0 in August. Markets were expecting a reading of 52.0.
The dollar fell to 89.60 yen after the data, from about 89.72 yen before the data.
