FBI says has over 2,600 mortgage fraud cases pending

WASHINGTON, Sept 16 - The Federal Bureau of Investigation has more than 2,600 mortgage fraud cases pending as of July 31, most of which involve losses of over than $1 million, FBI Director Robert Mueller said on Wednesday in prepared remarks to the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee.

That is up from the 2,400 open cases the agency had said it had in May. Mueller also said there are more than 580 open corporate fraud cases, up from 560 known in May. The FBI has declined to identify any companies under criminal investigation.
