Pound falls 1 percent against the dollar

Published: 22 Jun 2009 09:22:09 PST

NEW YORK, June 22 - The pound extended losses against the U.S. dollar on Monday to trade at session lows as concerns about the global economy prompted investors to pare back riskier holdings.

The pound fell as low as US$1.6325, and was last down 1 percent on the day at US$1.6331.

Investors' appetite for risk fell after the World Bank said Monday that prospects for the global economy remain "unusually uncertain," and it cut 2009 growth forecasts for most economies.
