South Korea finalises $18 bln river revamp project

SEOUL, June 9 - South Korea has finalised a plan to spend a combined 22.2 trillion won ($17.79 billion) until 2012 to revamp four of the country's major rivers, the land ministry said on Tuesday.

The government will spend 1.9 trillion won of the total this year, while 17.4 trillion won will be spent over the next two years mainly on dredging and redevelopment of rivers with the aim of improving utilisation of water resources, it said. ($1=1247.7 Won)
