TAIPEI, May 7 - Taiwan stocks edged up 0.09 percent on Thursday to a fresh eight-month closing high, as hopes of Chinese investments boosted financial shares such as Chinatrust Financial, but tech issues slipped on profit-taking.

The main TAIEX share index finished up 6.17 points at 6,572.87, its strongest close since Sept. 8 and bringing its gain to 17 percent since last Thursday.

The financial sub-index rose 1.99 percent, and Chinatrust Financial, the island's top credit card issuer, jumped 7 percent limit-up. The electronic sub-index ended down 0.74 percent. (US$1=T$33.1)
