DUBLIN, April 30 - Ireland's chief medical officer said on Thursday the country had a suspected case of swine flu, the first such case on the island.
"We have one case which is categorised as probable. This case is associated with recent travel to Mexico," Tony Holohan told a news conference.
The virus, which threatens to become a pandemic, is thought to have started in a village, east of Mexico City.
Up to 176 people have died in Mexico since the first cases were reported last week and the H1N1 swine flu virus is now spreading around the world. [ID:nSP370581]
