NEW YORK, Feb 9 - Bloomberg LP plans to trim 80 television and radio jobs at its London bureau, a source familiar with the matter told Reuters on Monday, days after the company announced 100 job cuts in the United States.
The job cuts would amount to 35 percent of the radio and TV jobs at the news and financial data provider's London operations, and about 4 percent of its London staff.
Bloomberg officials in London were unavailable for comment. The news was first reported by The Guardian newspaper in London.
The move is part of a restructuring of Bloomberg's global radio and TV network, including the shutdown of its non-English-language TV operations in places such as Japan, Spain and France.
The cuts would affect about 40 people in the Asia Pacific region, including 15 in Japan, two Bloomberg sources with direct knowledge of the situation previously told Reuters.
It is the first time that the privately held Bloomberg, founded in 1981 by majority owner and now-New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, has had layoffs.
Bloomberg competes with Thomson Reuters in providing news and data.
