Huadu is situated at the northern gate of Guangzhou with in Pearl River Delta economic circle, facing the South East Asia.The surrounding 100 square kilometers covers all the over 20 cities in Pearl River Delta economic circle, therefore it is often entitled with "the barrier wall for capital city of Guangzhou, the throat of North and South Guangdong." Huadu is abundant in natural and cultural resources, ever as the hometown of Hong Xiuquan, the leader of the Taiping Revolution. With the influence of the reformation, Huadu is flourishing and has developed into a metropolis with excellent scenes, superior investment environment, prosperous economy and initial modern-size from an underdeveloped city. And now, Huadu has been appraised as "the Capital of Flowers".
In recent years, increasing achievements have made in economy and society. In 2005, district output value has exceeded 30 billion RMB Yuan, with a growth rate of 20.8% by the same term, realizing a successive growth by double figures for years. Now, Huadu has become one of the most vigorous areas in economic development of Guangzhou. The establishment of Guangzhou New International Airport has played a role of milestone. The construction for Huadu city has been put into the development layout of Guangzhou’s modern metropolises and has become the vice center of the North of Guangzhou City. Huadu, with the reputation of "green mountains, clear water, blue sky and green lands", has initially set off Huadu's grand charming as a city of landscape and pastoral scenes.
With various social causes developing with economy and city construction, Huadu has obtained many awards such as "National Model District of Technology Progress", "National Excellent City of the Third Comprehensive Treatment on City Environment", "Nation Model District under Autonomous Administration by Local People",", "Excellent District of Chinese Medicine of Villages", "Health Promotion Model District of Thousand of Million Farmers", "Guangdong Civilized City", "Guangdong Hygiene City" and as well as "National Model City for Mutual Support Between the Civilian and the Arm Forces".
Transportation Network
Huadu is the North gateway to China mainland from Guangzhou City and Pearl River Delta, with developed tri-dimensional transportation network in water, land, and flight.
Guangzhou New International Airport, as one of China three hinge airports, located in Huadong County, Huadu District, with the annual passenger transportation volume of 25 million people per time for the first term project. Its cargos throughput can reach one million tons, with the largest scope of 80 million people per time each time and 30 million tons of cargos transportation volume. As one of the beginning stations of the Guangzhou area, the Guangzhou Railway North Station is in Huadu, with the Chinese railway big artery passing through. There are also three national highways, 105, 106 and 107, as well as the five highways, Jing-Zhu, Airport, Guang-Qing, Jie-Bei (Jiekou to Beixing), Guangzhou Beier Ring Road, running across the district. The passenger special line of the Jing-Guang Express Train, which is under construction, with the highest rate of 340 km/hour, has a station in Huadu. Moreover, there is the Type-B port, the Huadu Port, which may support a thousand-ton cargo ship to Hong Kong and Macau, with the annual throughput of one million tons; in addition, this port is now under expansion, and its throughput will reach up to three million tons by the end of 2007.
The city of Guangzhou is accelerating the construction program of subways, so as to realize the seamless connection between the Guangzhou City and Huadu District. The subway No. 9 that connects the Auto City of Huadu and the new airport as well as other districts of Guangzhou will be put into operation by 2013. In future, there will be the Guangzhou Beisan Ring Road, and the City Railway Special Line connecting Huadu and downtown Guangzhou as well as other areas of the Pearl River Delta.
Geographic Location & Climate
Huadu is high in the north and low in the south, with mountains crossing the north, low hills and mesas in the middle, and the Guang Hua Plain in the south, which form a northeast to southwest inclined rectangle. The Liuxi River runs through the east and the Bajiang River west. The climate of Huadu is tropical monsoon, neither sweltering in summer nor cold in winter, with the annual average temperature 21.7℃. Abundant sunshine and rain make plants here perpetually green and flowers bursting forth in all seasons.
Administrative Towns and Population
The district covers an area of 969 square kilometers, and has the jurisdiction over the following eight towns/streets: Xinhua, Huadong, Shiling, Tanbu, Huashan, Chini, Yayao, and Timian. The Xinhua Street where the district Party committee and district government resides in is 22 km from downtown Guangzhou. There are altogether 630,000 registered people and resident population 750,000 in the district. The district is famous for its people traveling overseas, with about 300,000 Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and overseas compatriots.
Natural resources
Huadu is abundant in natural resources, with 18 kinds of proven mineral resources, among which the limestone, Kaolin, clay and granite have taken up large reservations and all boast high quality, thus have good prospects for exploitation. The water resources is adequate in Huadu, with the average discharge of 1.15 billion m³ for several years; there are 17 middle and small size reservoirs constructed in the district, where the Liuxi River and Bajiang River run through.
History
The realm of the Huadu District (originally called as Hua County) was under the domination of Fanyu in Han Dynasty (206 -221 B.C.), and of the Nanhai County in the Sui Dynasty (A.D 581---617), and then of the Fanyu and Nanhai after the Song Dynasty (420-479). In order to consolidate the domination over this area, in the Kangxi Year 25 (1686 A.D.) of Qing Dynasty, a county was established by taking parts of the land from the two counties of Nanhai and Fanyu, and named "Hua County" due to its proximity to the Hua Mountain, under the domination of Guangzhou, and the leader of the Kingdom of Heavenly Peace Mr. Hong Xiuquan was born here. In the period of the Republic of China, the Hua County was successively under the jurisdiction of province. After the foundation of the new China, it came under the jurisdiction of the Jinang Bei Special Area, Pearl River Special Area, North Guangdong Administration Area and Foshan Special Area in succession. In April, 1960, it was put under the city of Guangzhou as a county. In June 18, 1993, the county was cancelled to establish a city under the approval of the state, and the Hua County was renamed as "Huadu", consigned by the provincial people's government to the administration of Guangzhou. In May 21, 2000, the Huadu City was again canceled for the establishment of a district, and finally became the Huadu District of Guangzhou City.
Travel Resources
Huadu is geographically featured with "three mountains, one lake and six plains", and boasts green mountains, clear water and beautiful landscapes. There are many well-known provincial class scenic spots such as Forest Park of Prince Mountain, Furong Holiday Resort, the Former Residence of Hong Xiuquan and Memorial Hall, Zizheng Dafu Temple, King Pangu Temple, Yuan Xuan Taoist Temple, among which the Former Residence of Hong Xiuquan is the national culture unit of key protection.
