For years, stressing on its fundamental role of economy, Guzhen has been striving to develop agriculture into the one with high efficiency, outward-orientation, and the value of ecology and sightseeing.
Presently, a special agricultural economic structure of the town has been formed with flowers and trees growing as its pillar and high quality aquatic products raising as the supplement. Guzhen has now become one of the large bases and markets of flowers and trees growing in South China.
In 1999, Guzhen was designated as one of “Guangdong’s Top Ten Demonstration Areas for Agricultural Modernization” by the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee.
In 2004, approved by the National Development and Reform Commission, a modern agriculture demonstration project of Zhongshan was set up in Guzhen Town.
Guzhen also develops agriculture in other places. At present, Guzhen has rented over 2,000 hectares of land for agriculture outside the town, which has largely increased the radiating influence of its agriculture.
From December 26 to 28 of 2008, China (Zhongshan) Green Fair and the 7th Bonsai Exhibition of Guangdong, Hongkong , Macao and Taiwan will be held in Guzhen. This exhibition will become a regional economic summit functioning as trading, business and capital attraction, technology and information exchange and cultural tourism, which will greatly promote the agricultural development of Guzhen to a higher-level one.
